Tito Bradshaw Bicycle Repair Shop Grand Opening | September 24th, 2019

The UTSA Office of Sustainability will open the Tito Bradshaw Bicycle Repair Shop on September 24, 2019. The shop’s creation is part of UTSA’s #MakeUTSAwalkable alternative transportation initiative. The shop will be housed in the newly renovated Ximenes Avenue information booth on UTSA’s Main Campus.

Tito Bradshaw was a charismatic leader, an engaged citizen, and tireless entrepreneur, whose name resonates strongly in the San Antonio cycling community. Tito Bradshaw owned a bicycle shop south of downtown San Antonio and organized group rides and events that became traditions in the city. On April 1, 2019, he was fatally struck while riding his bike.

While commemorating the efforts of this strong advocate for bike riding and safety, UTSA advances its commitment to bicycling and pedestrian walkability. The repair shop will house tubes, lubricants, and an array of tools that will allow students to make small repairs on their bikes. Grand Opening events for students, staff and faculty to get training and maintenance tips from the organizations exhibiting at the event to increase campus sustainability in transportation.

In the past two years, UTSA has added bike lanes, racks, and wider sidewalks. The Tito Bradshaw Bicycle Repair Shop is another component of the university’s dual focuses on student safety and alternative transportation.

UTSA and VIA Metropolitan Transit recently partnered to provide free, unlimited bus service to current UTSA students and paid employees. The VIA U-Pass program offers cost savings and makes it easier for the campus community to leave vehicles at home, reducing traffic on campus roads and parking lots.
